Collection: Grey partridge

The gray partridge ( Perdix perdix ), also called the European partridge, is an introduced species in Quebec and is mainly found in the agricultural areas of the southern part of the province. This brown-gray gallinaceous bird moves on the ground in small groups called flocks. It is well camouflaged in fields, wastelands, and wooded edges. A herbivore, it feeds on seeds, leaves, and insects. In winter, it survives by scraping the snow to find food and by grouping together to conserve heat. Although it is a hunted species, its populations remain relatively stable in certain agricultural regions. It is appreciated for its hunting value and its discretion. Observing the gray partridge in its environment requires attention and silence. It represents an interesting facet of the avifauna introduced to Quebec, integrated into our countryside and influenced by agricultural practices.
