Collection: Moose - Winter

In winter, the moose ( Alces alces ) demonstrates a remarkable adaptation to Quebec's extreme conditions. Its thick, insulating coat, large size, and powerful limbs allow it to move through deep snow and withstand the cold. It frequents devastations—dense wooded areas—where it finds relative protection from the wind and predators. Its winter diet is poorer: it grazes on bark, fir trees, and shrubs. Winter is a difficult period when it limits its movements to conserve energy. Climate change, winter ticks, and habitat fragmentation are increasing pressures on the species. Its management is receiving particular attention in Quebec. Observing a moose in a snowy landscape is a striking moment, a symbol of the grandeur of our northern wildlife. It embodies nature's resilience in the face of the Quebec winter.
