Collection: Northern Gannet

The Northern Gannet ( Morus bassanus ) is a spectacular seabird that nests in large colonies on the cliffs of the Gulf of St. Lawrence, particularly on Bonaventure Island. Recognizable by its white plumage, pale yellow head, and long, tapered beak, it impresses with its highly precise vertical dives, reaching speeds of over 100 km/h to capture fish and crustaceans. Quebec is home to one of the largest colonies of Northern Gannets in the world. These birds return to their nesting grounds each spring, creating noisy and striking scenes. Although their population is generally stable, they remain sensitive to climate change, marine pollution, and overfishing. Watching a Northern Gannet in flight or diving into the water is a unique spectacle. They embody the power, endurance, and elegance of Quebec's marine fauna.
