Collection: American Beaver

The American beaver ( Castor canadensis ) is one of the most iconic symbols of Quebec and Canada. This semi-aquatic rodent is famous for its engineering talents: it builds dams and lodges that transform landscapes into veritable wetland ecosystems. With its robust teeth, it cuts down trees to create ponds that promote biodiversity. The beaver plays a crucial ecological role: it regulates waterways, prevents erosion, and creates habitats for other species. Present in almost all regions of Quebec, it is active mainly at night. Although abundant, it can sometimes come into conflict with humans when its constructions modify infrastructure. Observing a beaver in its natural environment at dusk is a fascinating spectacle of perseverance and adaptation. Preserving wetlands also means preserving this outstanding builder of Quebec's nature.
