In winter, the musk ox ( Ovibos moschatus ) demonstrates exceptional resilience to the rigors of Quebec's arctic climate. Its thick woolly fleece protects it from extreme temperatures, often below -40°C. . It scrapes the snow with its hooves to access buried vegetation, feeding on grasses and lichens. When threatened, muskoxen form a circle, placing their young in the center, an effective defense strategy against predators such as wolves. In winter, they live in herds of several dozen individuals, strengthening their protection against harsh conditions.
